A bookstore is at heart a place to browse, to let serendipity and chance guide you, and though that experience will always be our primary focus, it's also important to seek different avenues of conveying our loves of books to you. That's where this page comes in handy.
Offering preorders is a way to share our excitement about upcoming books and offers benefits to authors, publishers, and us, your bookseller. You can preorder any forthcoming book on our site or in the store, so we'll limit our selection here to books of particular interest to us.
"In the whale, the world," writes Rebecca Giggs early on in this astonishing piece of environmental writing. In a book about whales, the world, one could say after reading here about subjects as disparate as solar flares and mass strandings; the relationship between charisma and consumption; whale baths at health spas; and so much more. Giggs has immense talent and an eye for the essential detail, with prose that shimmers like a calm sea. Her book is a masterpiece.
It's a new Ferrante novel. Need we say more?
Helen MacDonald's 'H is for Hawk' is a favorite of ours and so her forthcoming essay collection is a perfect follow-up to that memoir. These deeply considered essays cover a lot of what you'd expect: MacDonald investigates the human relationship with animals, especially birds, teases out the implications of climate change, considers more autobiographical elements, and more. Beautifully written, with characteristic insight and erudition, Vesper Flights offers further proof that this is one of our best writers working today.
If I were forced to choose only one genre of book to read for the rest of my life, I'd cheat a little and say "poets writing prose." So, I'm very much looking forward to this anthology, which includes poets from a wide range of eras and styles.
