Our Community Supported Bookstore loyalty program is inspired by the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) movement which encourages loyal customers to help local farmers be sustainable. Steve Costa and Kate Levinson established Point Reyes Books’ CSB program to do the same for local, independent booksellers, helping them sustain through slower times and build customer investment in the business. And the idea has spread from coast to coast – the program has been featured in the New Yorker!
What's it all about?
Independent bookstores have been hard hit by chain stores, online book discounters like Amazon, and e-books. A CSB will help Point Reyes Books navigate the crests and troughs of running a small retail operation while giving you a real stake in our continuing success as a sustainable and productive local business.
How does it work?
Having a CSB is like opening a tab at Point Reyes Books. To become a member, simply deposit $100 or more into your Point Reyes Books CSB account, then draw your purchases against that balance. In addition to feeling like part of a super cool circle of bibliophiles when you say your name at the counter, CSB members receive a 5% discount on all in-store or online purchases. You can add to your account at any time, and you can even open an account for someone else as a gift.
You can open or add to your CSB account by visiting or calling the store, mailing a check, or by ordering a membership online. To sign up or renew your membership online, enter the amount you'd like to add to your account (min. $100) in the box below and continue to your cart. You will receive an email notification with your membership number for online purchases.
